What are Warts?
Warts are small, rough, benign tumors that can form on any area of the body, though they are most common on areas where bacteria comes in contact more frequently such as the hands and the feet. They are basically caused by a viral infection obtained when open skin comes in contact with an infected individuals wart area. Warts typically appear and then disappear in the course of a few weeks, but in some cases, they can last for months, even up to years and, if not treated correctly, may recur over the span of a life time.
Wart Symptoms
Warts are relatively easy to spot. They take the appearance of a bump on a part of the body that hurts when prodded. They are often mistaken for calluses or blisters, both of which look very similar to warts. Warts are called different things based on what they look like and on what part of the body they appear. "Warts" can also be called "genital warts" if the genital area is infected. If this is the case, the warts will usually appear after having intercourse with an infected individual. This classifies them as a common STD or sexually transmitted disease. These warts will appear in clusters and normally will itch, usually causing them to be confused with genital crabs.
Another common form of warts is called planters warts. These warts are normally small and white in appearance and get their name because they tend to go deep into the skin, sometimes reaching an inch in length. They are very painful to remove, however, seldom hurt unless they are poked and prodded excessively. The sign of these warts may be mild discomfort in the area and a small white circle that tends to be very firm.
These are the two major kinds of warts and their symptoms. Though they are not the only kind, they are certainly the most common.
